This sports based drama is about an ambitious, failed tennis player parent, Dilip Singh (Ranvir Shorey) trying to motivate and train his daughter into becoming a successful Tennis player despite some club level chicanery by his one-time arch rival, Ganda (Maj.Bikramjeet).
Dilip is fierce and keeps his daughter Anushka(Dakshata Patel) on her toes, while wife Jaya(Divya Dutta) gives contained diplomacy new meaning. It’s an autocratic set-up and given the chance to play for the club in a team tournament (which Dilip summarily dismisses), Anushka is game to break out of her shackles. That literally causes an estrangement and the mother-daughter hope against hope that Dilip will be curious enough to see his daughter play the championship match – thus paving the way for a happy reconciliation.
The performances are solid. Ranvir and Divya show off an innate understanding that almost makes them look like a real-life couple. Dakshata, a tennis player in real life, does an empathetic job as Anushka. It’s a pity that while the narrative talks about Anushka having dreams of going all the way to Wimbledon, we are regaled with mediocre training routines and too little competition drama to elevate this experience. There’s enough tension in the story-telling but the sub-plots lack the gravitas to make this experience more meaningful. Even the shenanigans that Ganda gets into here are symptomatic of the small-mindedness of this CFSI sponsored effort!
