A year after popular television show “Balika Vadhu” had a re-run during the COVID-19 lockdown, the daily soap is all set to return for its second season with an all-new cast.
The characters Anandi and Jagya which were originally essayed by Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee will now be played by child artists Shreya Patel and Vansh Sayani.
According to reports, the show will be filmed across Rajasthan and will reprise its narrative around child marriage.
Besides the lead pair, "Balika Vadhu 2" will also feature Riddhi Nayak Shukla, Ketki Dave, Supriya Shukla, Seema Mishra and Anshul Trivedi.
"Balika Vadhu" was aired from 2008 to 2016. The cast included Surekha Sikri, Vikrant Massey and Sidharth Shukla.
In 2016, when the show completed more than 2000 episodes, it made its way to the Limca Book of Records as the longest running daily fiction soap in Hindi.
In a statement, Manisha Sharma, programming head of channel Colors, said that the show’s meaningful content, endearing story-line and inspirational characters have created a strong impact on the mind of the viewers.
The show has attempted to showcase the realities of rural India, and took a stand towards women empowerment through its strong female protagonists and even encouraged girl child education. It eaised concerns about societal issues like child marriage, domestic abuse, marital rape and even remarriage.
