Sandeepa Dhar talks exclusively to Shubarna Mukerji Shu about her international show!

Tell us something about your International Show west side story

Westside story is inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. I play the female lead in the play. My character name is Maria who is a hopeless romantic and an innocent young girl who falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the centre of the violent conflict between the two gangs. I am really looking forward to staging the musical in Spain. Since Maria (the character that I play in the musical) is originally from Puerto Rico, it’s going to be exciting to see how the Spanish react to me playing a character that is iconic to Spanish music scene. I hope my rendition of Maria is ethnically satisfying for them. “

How did the West Side Story happen?

I have been a dancer since I was a toddler. After having trained with Shiamak and Terrance for about 8 years; I had the urge to study dance at the Australian Dance School, I won a scholarship for the same. While studying there, I auditioned for the role of Maria and got the role. And that’s how the “west side story” journey started. After a strenuous 6 month rehearsal, we staged out first show in Australia. And since them we have performed in over 8 countries with over 100 shows.

We hear you’ve done some Jackie Chan inspired stunts in 7 Hours to Go. Tell us more.

Yes, I play a cop in the film and for the role I was asked to learn Martial arts. I am learning MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and Parkour to get the perfect body language in the film. The role is very different and my action stunts will also be very different. My stunts in the film will have glimpses of how Jackie Chan does action. It would take years of discipline to match up to a legend like Jackie but I am trying to give my best shot and my trainer is quite happy with the progress. I hope my training will translate well on screen.

How has your journey in the entertainment industry been?

So far so good!! It’s been a really crazy ride so far. To be honest I am still too new to really gauge the whole thing. Maybe a few years down the line I can answer this question in a more meaningful way. So far, the industry has been very warm and welcoming towards me and I am really lucky to have worked with some of the best production houses in the industry. Getting to learn from people like Sooraj Bharjatya, Salman Khan has been an honor and I am really grateful for it.

What are the other projects you are working on?

I am currently staging a broadway musical called ‘West Side Story’ in Spain. Also I am shooting for a film titled ‘7 hours to go’ alongside Shiv Pandit wherein I am playing a cop. I have just wrapped up a film titled “Global Baba” directed by Manoj Tiwari co starring Abhimanyu Singh and Sanjay Mishra

Anil Kapoor and Ranveer Singh seem to have bonded greatly during the making of DIL DHADAKNE DO, while the younger actor is all praises for his senior’s enthusiasm, Anil has more indebt analysis of the actor. Since Ranveer is someone who is as good as Arjun for Anil, his words not ours, Anil was very curious to see how Ranveer would be performing the tougher scenes and the actor came out thoroughly impressed.

According to the actor, Ranveer might have a very carefree personality off screen with his floral shirts and bizarre suits; he is someone who is extremely tuned into the character with each of the film he has taken on. Kapoor went onto say that many times a good performance is credited to the director but in Ranveer’s case, there is a lot of credit he himself deserves for the kind of work he puts through in the film.

Sources close to the Kapoor family have confirmed saying Anil was completely impressed with the scenes wherein Ranveer has no dialogues but still takes on the frame like magic, “The fun and frolic exterior of Ranveer Singh is merely a facade, he is a thinking actor with deep understanding of emotions. He delivers the emotions so perfectly that is a testimony of how good an actor he is,” testified a confidante of the Kapoor family.

Anil himself agreed that the scenes between Anushka and Ranveer were so electrifying that the chemistry is almost tangible. Well, Ranveer sure should take a bow getting all these praises from such a legendary actor himself.
