It’s tough to release a film in this country with all the stringent censorship laws but according to Sarah Jane Dias, that will only amount to piracy and nothing else.
Recently the actress was overheard saying that though the film ‘Margarita With A Straw’ is being released with loads of cuts in the lovemaking scenes, it will only have the youth who are the target audience to go online and download the film uncensored. Given the censorship norms are restricted to India and what goes online is something that world allows, where no Indian censor board had any say these things will only get prevalent now.
What the actress pointed out rather nonchalantly is an extremely vital point for films and film economy. Those who are of the age and want to see a film will probably go online and download whatever it is that they would want to see, and to the extent they want to see it without any board and its rules having any say. If people chose, they are bound to find a way to see it so that’s going to only affect ticket sales and even TRPs of the film, where will the economy in making films be if the number of people seeking piracy increases?
