South Korean Director Park Hee-Gon Of Target Fame Dies At 56

Renowned South Korean film director Park Hee-Gon passed away at the age of 56. The news was confirmed on April 30 by Korean news outlet OSEN. The cause of his death has not been made public yet.

Park was best known for directing superhit films like Perfect Game, Target, and Insadong Scandal. His funeral is set to take place at the Myungji Hospital funeral hall in Deogyang-Gu, Goyang City, in Gyeonggi Province.

Following the news of his demise, fans and film lovers flooded social media with tributes. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “RIP Director Park Hee-Gon. His films will be remembered.” Another added, “We just lost a cinematic legend! Director Park Hee Gon, the mastermind behind hits like Insadong Scandal and Perfect Game, has passed away at 56. The film world feels a little dimmer today."

About Park Hee-Gon

Park Hee-Gon studied English literature at Kyungwon University. He first grabbed eyeballs after winning a national college advertising competition. This led him to a brief career in advertising before moving into the entertainment industry.

He started off by directing music videos and later moved into screenwriting and filmmaking. His breakthrough came with the movie Insadong Scandal. He went on to direct Perfect Game, a film based on the famous baseball rivalry between Korean pitchers Choi Dong-Won and Sun Dong-Yeol.

Some of his other notable films include the historical drama Fengshui (2018) and the romantic comedy Catman (2021). His most recent film, Target (2023), starred Shin Hye-Sun and was declared a hit. The thriller tells the story of Soo-Hyun, a woman who becomes a victim of crime after a second-hand trade goes wrong.
