Her first mad tryst with the Mumbai torrents is a favourite memory for SOPHIE CHOUDRY, the actress-singer tells VIRAJ SAWANT.
Being a Londoner, Sophie Choudry was used to the frequent drizzle but hadn’t seen the heavy downpour of the Mumbai monsoon. On her first encounter with the heavy fall, she got drenched from top to toe and it was love at first sight for her!
How fond are you of the Mumbai monsoon?
Well, it’s definitely special! Though it brings the whole city to a standstill because of the water logging, it’s also very beautiful and romantic.
Rainy days can be gloomy, how do you spend a lazy monsoon day?
If I have a day off, I like to chill at home with my family and the love of my life, my Shih Tzu puppy, Tia. This year will be her first rainy season because she is still a baby. I also love watching good TV shows, sipping on lots of chai and listening to great music!
Which movie comes to your mind when we talk about the monsoon?
AASHIQUI 2 is one film that comes to my mind when you talk about monsoons…mainly because the rains were so prominent in the songs and promotions. Remember the poster with Aditya (Roy Kapoor) and Shraddha (Kapoor) standing in the rain under a jacket? The old classic, SINGING IN THE RAIN is of course a favourite.
What do you crave when it pours?
Pakoras do come to my mind, but to be honest I don’t enjoy fried food. So it’s usually a nice hot adrak chai or parathas, and otherwise makhanas which are a much healthier option.
Anything romantic works for me! Among the latest, I love a few Arijit Singh songs… ‘Kabhi jo baadal barse…’, ‘Tum hi ho…’ and ‘Galliyan…’ (EK VILLAIN) are my favourites. I also love listening to Adele.
A bizarre rain situation that you’ve experienced?
Perhaps my first Mumbai rains, where I was sitting in a restaurant and watching people run in and out getting wet! I found it so amusing because Londoners never celebrate rain like that! And next thing I knew, a friend of mine picked me up and ran us both out into the rains where I got completely drenched! I just remember laughing and screaming, and the memory always puts a smile on my face. Sounds filmi, but I guess that if filmi moments don’t happen in Mumbai then where will they happen?!
