Los Angeles: An “Emoji” movie is being developed at Sony Pictures Animation. The studio won a bidding war against two other major companies, Paramount and the home of “The Lego Movie” Warner Brothers, in a near-seven-figure deal for the film, reported Ace Showbiz.
Details on the storyline are still scarce but the script is co-written by Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis. Leondis is also expected to sit behind the lens for this upcoming untitled project. Unlike the toy brand Lego which is owned by a Denmark-based company, Emoji is a public domain so it is free to grab.
Following the big success of “The Lego Movie”, Hollywood has been working on similar projects. “Pixels” which includes the famous video game character PacMan is coming out this coming weekend. “Minecraft” and “Play-Doh” are going to follow next.
