Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt |

Bollywood’s very own Baba, Sanjay Dutt turns 59 today and on this special day, the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 actor will be celebrating his birthday with wife Maanayata Dutt and his kids. Sanjay Dutt’s life has always been a set of controversies. That’s why, his dear friend Rajkumar Hirani made a film based on Sanjay Dutt’s life, Sanju with lead actor Ranbir Kapoor and supporting cast like Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma and others.

Well, Sanju is still running in theatres and breaking many box office records. However, many people claimed that Sanju is glorifying Sanjay Dutt by portraying him as an innocent guy. The film ‘questioned’ the media repeatedly, but here are 5 factors or claims in Sanju that have left a big question mark in our minds.

How dumb was Kamli’s character in Sanju?

Hats off to Vicky Kaushal for portraying Sanjay Dutt’s close friend from America, Paresh Ghelani as Kamli in the film beautifully. However, the one question which made us curious after watching the film was that, was Kamli so dumb that he didn’t even check the question mark (?) in the headline of the news. It wasn’t as if the font was smaller or that the question mark wasn’t prominent enough. After all, a question mark, by definition, indicates the possibility, probability about the particular information. Hence, it doesn’t give a confirmation of a particular news or information. However, Kamli relies on the RDX news and breaks his strong bond with Sanju. Duh! Slow claps!!!

Also, how can you accept somebody if your girlfriend or boyfriend has sex with your best friend just because you were not in the mood or available to do the act? But Sanju yet again showed Kamli as so someone who forgives Sanjay Dutt despite him having sex with his girlfriend. Feel sad for Kamli!

Drugs for Entertainment?

Drugs are something which every individual should live away from. But, Sanjay Dutt got into drug addiction so badly that his father late actor Sunil Dutt had to pull him back from the phase of drugs. Amid all, the makers of Sanju portrayed consuming of drugs in a shockingly light-hearted manner. So, Ranbir Kapoor elaborately dances on the song, ‘Main Badhiya’ as if the drug has had no shocking effect on him. Moreover, when Sanju gets drugs for the second time, he goes into the happy land of flowers and fantasises about his girlfriend Ruby played by Sonam Kapoor. The film constantly asks media to be responsible. The same applies to the filmmaker when dealing with a sensitive matter like drugs. Doesn’t it?

Multiple sex partners, a matter of pride?

It is okay for a person to have multiple sex matters. It is a matter of individual choice. But, the manner in which Sanju showcases Sanjay Dutt as a proud persona who has had sex with 308 women in his life is rather bizarre. It is almost as if it was an achievement in Sanjay Dutt’s life.

Media is the only villain?

In the conclusion of Sanju, makers tried to prove that Media is the main villain of Sanjay Dutt’s life. Sanju questions why media did not report that he was acquitted under TADA, and hence was not a terrorist, but only wrote that he was convicted. Well, that was the NEWS, that Sanjay Dutt had been ‘convicted’ under Arms Act. The film only shows how Media can make anybody’s life hell. But they forget the fact that whenever Sanjay Dutt did good work, media never missed any chance to praise him. There were even TV debates questioning whether Sanjay Dutt paid the price of being a celebrity. Phir bhi sabse bada drugs hai, Samachaar!

Sisters snubbed!

Apart from Sunil Dutt, Namrata Dutt and Priya Dutt played the role of major support system for Sanjay Dutt in real life. But sadly, the makers of Sanju didn’t give any importance to them in the film. Notably, Priya Dutt’s character, who also helped Sanjay Dutt in his fight to get out of the TADA case, doesn’t even have a dialogue in the film and is just seen standing beside Paresh Rawal.

Bas Ho Gaya, Baba?
