Veteran Indian actress Rita Bhaduri passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 62. This sad news has recently been confirmed by actor Shishir Sharma. Rita Bhaduri was one of the popular faces of Bollywood who had done several supporting roles in many Bollywood films like Julie, Raja, Beta, Love and others. The 62-year-old actress had featured in around 70 films in her 30 years long career.
She was often confused as Jaya Bachchan’s sister. When asked about it, she once told the media, “It has been so many years. People are confused. But, we have no connection. It is fine though, I am used to it.”
Apart from films, she was also a prominent face of TV as she had done roles in shows like Khichdi, Kumkum, Choti Bahu, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Ek Nayi Pehchaan”, “Amanat”, “Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka”.
Rita Bhaduri was born on November 4, 1955, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Despite being a Bengali, Rita Bhaduri had been associated with the Gujarati Film Industry. Hence, the actress was an exceptionally successful personality in Gujarati cinema.
Rita worked as the mother of many popular actors like Chandrachur Singh, Revathi and others. For her role in Raja, she had got a nomination in Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress Category.
Rita Bhaduri’s sudden demise shocked the entire film industry. Shishir Sharma wrote on his Facebook wall, “We deeply regret to inform you that Reeta Bhaduri has departed for her journey beyond. The funeral rites will be held on 17th July, Tuesday at 12 noon at the Cremation Ground, Parsi Wada Road, Parshiwada, Chakala, Andheri East. Extremely sad.. lost a wonderful human being .. a mother to many of us.. will miss u Ma…”
After that her TV co-stars expressed their sadness to IANS. Zama Habib, producer and writer of “Nimki Mukhiya”, said that somehow he knew it was going to happen. “We were at the hospital last night. Her condition was not good. We have cancelled today’s shoot due to her demise,” Habib told IANS. In “Nimki Mukhiya”, she was seen as a Imarti Devi, the grandmother of the house. What’s going to happen to her character? “The last time she shot for the show was almost 15 days back. We were waiting for her to recover. Today is her funeral. We will see what can be done,” said Habib, who described her as a “gem of a person”.
Actress Shiwani Chakraborty of “Nimki Mukhiya” said, “For the past two months, she was not keeping well. I will really miss her. More than a co-actor, she was a great human being. I learnt a lot of things from her. She was just like a family member to me.” Actress Garima Singh, who played her daughter-in-law in the show, added, “We used to share the shame room. So we used to talk about lots of things. She was a very positive person.”
