RIP MeToo? Court states Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of rape for her own benefit; grants bail to actor

Mumbai session court’s verdict on Alok Nath and Vinta Nanda rape case can be a major blow to the MeToo movement. The court not only granted bail to Nath but has also stated that Nanda has accused the former of rape for her own benefit.

Alok Nath had been granted anticipatory bail by the court on Saturday but has strictly instructed him to not visit Nanda’s house and would not threaten or bribe anyone associated with the case.

While announcing the bail, the court stated that the Vinta for her own benefit did not lodge the report immediately after the alleged incident. The court has also observed that there’s a huge possibility that Alok Nath has been falsely accused in the crime. Amongst all, one thing which has worked under Nath’s favour is the fact that although Nanda remembers the entire incident but she did not remember the date and month of the incident which has made court to doubt Nanda’s intention.

The court further stated that Nath’s medical examination would be a “mere formality” as now both Nanda, as well as Alok Nath, were married to their respective partners.

Vinta Nanda had gone public with her ordeal at the peak of the #MeToo on her Facebook account where she accused Alok Nath of raping her 19 years ago. After this, Nath had filed a defamation suit against her. Nanda then went ahead and filed an FIR against Alok Nath, alleging rape.
