Recently the movie ‘Saavi – A Bonded Bride’ was in news, for its strong content. And now news is that veteran singer Rekha Bharadwaj has lent her voice for a song in the movie.
Considered as one of the most influential figures in the music industry, the singer has sung a song titled ‘Ki Bedarda Sang Yaari…’ in the movie. The heart touching number is composed by Shashwat Sachdev which follows the semi-classic style of hindustani music called thumri.
Commenting on this Rekha Bharadwaj said, “I got related with ‘Saavi – A Bonded Bride’ as Munna Dhiman lyricist has worked with Vishal Bhardwaj, Ram Sampath among others, he is more of a friend for us. He once told me that Rajeev Kumar (Director of the film) wants to meet me and I knew of Rajeev as his wife is a good friend of mine but I had never met him. So Munna asked me, can I sing song for Rajeev’s film and I said why not? It felt really nice when I met him and we connected instantly. And as he told me about the subject of the film I really liked it, as its heart touching and it deals with the very sensitive issue of barter of women.” The story of the film is based on watta-satta – the barter system for women that exists in certain communities in the Chamba area of Himachal Pradesh.
