Veteran actress Hema Malini seems to take her new role as a politician very seriously. The yesteryears’ actress who has won the Mathura parliamentary seat on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket said in an interview that she’s not into politics to pose in pretty beautiful saris but to bring change and prove her critics wrong! Whoa, those are some strong words and we do hope to see some “change” now.
“They were making fun of me because they thought I was just here in Mathura to pose for pretty pictures in beautiful saris. They forgot that I’ve spent six years in the Rajya Sabha before attempting to contest the Lok Sabha elections. So I am not only a glamorous star whiling away my time,” said the one time Dream Girl.
She further added saying, “Now those cynics will sit and watch my performance. They will say, ‘Let’s see what she does.’ Well, all I can say to them is they will get to see a lot of me in Mathura.” Talking about her plans to bring positive changes in Mathura in the coming years, the actress said that a lot needs to be done about it and merely visiting the city once a month isn’t enough. “People in Mathura knew I was there with a serious agenda. Now I need to prove myself,” she said.
Talking about Narendra Modi, Prime Minister-to-be, the 65-year-old actress laid the onus of her election victory on the senior politician. “Of course the wave gave an edge to all BJP candidates. I won because of Modi-ji. But the wide margin by which I won was because of my own personal standing in the constituency… Everyone has great hopes from Narendra Modi-ji and all his party members like me who have been elected. We can’t afford to let them down,” she said.
