Akshay Kumar recently opened up about his citizenship to shut off rumours and backlash through a tweet on Friday. But the tweet itself has fans wondering if the actor actually has a ‘Honorary Citizenship of Canada’.
Back in 2017, during his interview with a leading news channel, Akshay Kumar revealed he has been given the honorary citizenship and that is ‘something to be proud of’. Since Honorary Citizenship is a symbolic title one does not need to change their passport but the actors tweet on Friday confirmed the same.
Wikipedia also had a page listed that mentions all the honorary members present with the Canadian citizenship and Kumar isn’t one of them. It mentions six names that include Dalai Lama, Malala Yousafzai and Nelson Mandela.
On the other Hand, in the year 2017, AR Rahman was the one actually offered Canadian citizenship by a mayor. The music maestro however politely refused, calling India his home.
Rahman was in Toronto for a concert when it happened, and he also has a street named after him in Ontario.
