Sunscreen? Always!
Sunscreens are very useful. We may not see the sun but UV rays still pass through clouds and smog.
Moisturisers should be chosen according to the skin type. One should use a bit less than required as the atmospheric humidity does keep the skin a bit moist but not necessarily nourish the skin.
Make-up Dos & Don’ts
Using make-up is a big yes in this weather. Keep it a bit high contrast as it would look nice in this drab weather. Use some colour on the lips and cheeks to make them look perky. Avoid too much of a natural look as it would look washed out during the monsoons. Use long-stay or water-proof and smudge-proofmake-up products. Just use concealer and compact on the face for foundation as it would last much longer and won’ look bad no matter how humid it is. Avoid too much of gloss and creams. Keep the skin tone matte. And do not go heavy with foundation; use it only where required.
Make-up Management

Use a lip liner to fill in the lip and then use a lip colour over it; it helps keeping the lip colour in place for longer. Use a smudge-proof kohl pencil and keep one handy for touch ups too. One should also keep face tissues and cotton buds just to correct any smears or smudges that could happen.

For the daytime or normal usage, shades of coral, peach, pinks, orange stains work well. For a function, one can key up the colours mentioned for regular use and can also use shades of crimson, magenta, burgundy and red. Glam up the look in this gloomy weather!
Daily Wear
Use very little moisturiser or BB or CC cream. Use a concealer just at the ‘problem areas’. Finish it with a compact. Also, use natural colour shades of eye shadow on the eyes and use a very thin line of waterproof eyeliner to create a slightly winged shape. Use waterproof kohl on the waterline and finish it with water proof mascara. Use some blush on the cheeks.
Glam Eyes
For glamour events, one can do smoky eyes as it’s still a running top favourite. Rather than going all black, use a deep indigo or deep green or bronze. Adding some shimmer to the smoky effect will add up that glam quotient to the overall look. Many water-proof and water-resistant products are available to do this.

It’s the summer trends that continue into monsoon with just more added colours and a few tweaks to the techniques. Peaches and corals are big for the season. Also, gold with eye make-up is a big trend with winged eyeliner. Water-proof glitter eyeliners are also available that can create some interesting effects.

Keep the hairstyle neat and clean. Messy hairdos will end up looking messier by the end of the day.
If you have very straight or very curly hair, use a light leave-in conditioner and serum and that’s all one needs. Keep the hairstyle in such a way that it’s away from the facial area. This will keep it appearing neat all through the day. For volume, instead of back combing the hair, use hair stuffings or extra rows of extensions as backcombing can fall flat. Up-dos, French braids, French rolls, fishtail braids work very well for the season.
