Naseeruddin Shah has expressed in his grief and fear on the ongoing issues in India, where a cop is killed on the name of a cow. He also said he was anxious over the well-being of his children, who he said have not been brought up as followers of any particular religion, “I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks, ‘Are you a Hindu or a Muslim?’ they will have no answer. It worries me that I don’t see the situation improving anytime soon” he said. However, now his statement has turned into a political debate.

Not only Shah, but over the years we have seen several Bollywood celebs, who have given a statement that sparked a political row.

Kangana Ranaut

In a conversation with Sadhguru the actress’ clip went viral where she was accused by many of justifying lynching. Though a segment of the conversation had Ranaut saying that she was heartbroken at the lynching, she also agreed with Sadhguru when he insinuated that those who debate over the violence “have not seen India” and “are living in cities and endlessly talking about these things”.

Swara Bhasker

The actress raised her voice against the Kathua and Unnao rape case, where a minor girl was held captive and raped for days. The actress took to her Twitter account and wrote justice for rape victims. However this did not go down well with many religious entities further starting a political debate as well.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan has also spoken about intolerance in India. In an interview Aamir said he was “alarmed” by a number of incidences that took place in the country and his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country. He also supported those returning their awards, saying one of the ways for creative people to express their dissatisfaction or disappointment was to return their awards. Aamir was slammed heavily for his comment.

Sonu Nigam

The ace singer of Bollywood Sonu Nigam was in news for his comment on Azan. The singer took to his Twitter account and wrote, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India?” Within few hours of his tweet, it turned in to a rage and people and political parties started targeting Sonu for his statement.

Dia Mirza

Recently Bollywood fraternity met PM Narendra Modi to discuss issues related in Indian cinema, and the picture from the meet and greet went viral in no time. But everyone was stunned as there were no women representatives in the meeting. This enraged many, of which Dia Mirza took to her Twitter account and wrote, “This is wonderful! Is there a reason why there were no women in this room?”
