From sarong-kurtas to gents’ colognes, Manisha Koirala shares with Anita Raheja-Heena Agarwal all her style faves

A beautiful woman, Manisha looks equally alluring in a white gharara (Bombay) as she does in a puff-sleeve blouse, khadi sari and braided hair (1942 – A Love Story). And yes, she is still ethereal all these years later, even having battled and overcome the Big C. Fact is, what Manisha wears best is her simplicity and elegance.

My favourite outfit is: Lungi-kurta or sarong-kurta.

My favourite day wear: Pants and shirt or a T-shirt.

For evening wear: If I’m going out, I like to be slightly more formal and wear gents’ suits.

I sleep in: Pyjama-kurtas.

My favourite designer: Jean Paul Gaultier and Armani.

In Indian designers I like: Manish Malhotra and Shahid Aamir.

My favourite colour is: Black. I like to wear a lot of black.

My favourite fabric is: Cotton.

I have a fetish for: Shoes…I have no idea how many pairs I have!

My favourite accessory: I’m fond of watches, I have a collection of them.

My wardrobe is incomplete without: A mix of casual plus formal wear, because I mix and match my casuals and formals quite a lot.

I like to wear: Western and ethnic combinations. I think I look best in them.

I don’t patronise: Brands. I would rather wear designed stuff.

In perfumes I like: Issey Miyake for men. It’s very nice. I like men’s colognes basically.

I shop: All over the world. London is pretty good.

The best dressed men are: Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt.

In women I like: The iconic Rekha’s style.

My most expensive outfit: I do not know exactly. There are some formal saris and a couple of my Western formals which cost over Rs. 50,000/-.

On my first day of shoot, I wore: A frock in white for the ‘ILU ILU…’ song from Saudagar.

The feature I would like to conceal: My nose, which needs shading, et al.

I like to highlight: My eyes.

I prefer: Natural colours and tones.

According to me, ideal make-up is: Less make-up, it gives you a natural look.

A fashion tip: Keep it simple and natural. Be easygoing about fashion. Don’t follow fashion, let fashion follow you.
