Karan Johar’s Kalank that released mid-week registered the highest box office collection on day one for 2019, but the number didn’t rise much on the second day after the film faced mixed reviews and some criticism.
The actors like Madhuri Dixit, Alia and Varun have received love for their performance while the narrative of the film lacked support from the audience and the critics, leading to more that 50% drop on the second day collection. A Boxoffice India report claims the film collected an estimated Rs 10-10.5 crore on the second day as opposed to more than 20 crore on first day. The two-day total for the movie now stands at Rs 31 crore.
Overseas, the film has managed to collect lower than day two. Trade analyst Joginder Tuteja tweeted, Kalank has also earned Rs 5.1 crore overseas.

The multi-starrer directed by Abhishek Verman became the highest opener for Varun and Alia individually and together. Followed by Akshay Kumar’s Kesari, that was also a holiday release.
Produced by Karan Johar and presented by Fox Star Studios, Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940s that also stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha.
