Jisshu is Deepika’s new hero

[dropcaps round=”no”]B[/dropcaps]engali star Jisshu Sengupta, who debuted in Bollywood opposite Ileana D’Cruz in a guest appearance in Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’, would now be seen romancing Deepika Padukone on the big screen in Shoojit Sircar’s next film ‘Piku’.

Apparently Jisshu, who would next be seen in Pradeep Sarkar’s Hindi film ‘Mardaani’ in which he plays husband to Rani Mukerji’s character, had to convince Sircar to bag this role. Sources tell that Sircar was keen to cast Jisshu opposite Deepika as the role suited him to perfection. But, the fact that Jisshu was being launched as a leading man by Yash Raj Films (YRF) made Sircar pause to rethink about his lead actor. However, when Jisshu showed Shoojit his Bengali film ‘Jaatishwar’ Sircar was convinced and that’s how Jisshu was brought on board.

On being asked about bagging a role in ‘Piku’, the actor said excitedly, “It’s a big break with a director I really admire and with actors I really love. It has been my dream to work with Mr. Bachchan from the time I decided I wanted to be an actor. Irrfan-ji is another actor I truly admire. As for Deepika, isn’t she everyone’s favourite dream girl these days?” Says all the right things, doesn’t he?

The film is expected to begin in July this year. Shoojit Sircar, whose last film ‘Madras Café’ garnered him worldwide critical acclaim, is now all set to be back in form with PIKU, which deals with a different take on the relationship of a father and daughter.

It is known that Sircar has signed the legendary Amitabh Bachchan to play the father’s role, while Deepika Padukone will be playing his daughter. The film will also star Irrfan Khan in a very important role. With such promising actors put together, we can’t wait for the film to get on the floors.
