Mumbai: Nishikant Kamat is playing the role of villain in his upcoming film “Rocky Handsome” and the filmmaker says it is difficult to act and direct at the same time.
“It is extremely difficult (to act and direct). I respect those people who act and direct. When I act, I start thinking like a director… It disturbs my performance. So I don’t do justice to my acting when I am directing,” Nishikant told reporters here at the trailer launch of “Rocky Handsome”.
“Ideally, I would avoid acting in the films, I would direct. I would act in films otherwise. Direction will always remain my first love,” he said. The “Drishyam” helmer reveals it was decided at the last moment that he should act in the film.
“It is a coincidence that I am acting. I had not thought I would play villain. I had thought of one of my friend for the role he is not an actor. Initially, he was going to act but he did not come,” he said.
“We had only two days left for the schedule (for his part). So the (direction) team thought I should do it,” he added.
“Rocky Handsome” stars John Abraham in the lead role. The director-actor duo have worked together in “Force” that was a hit and they are excited for their second collaboration.
“It is an advantage but it was a responsibility as we had to do better work. It was a disadvantage in a way as we had to constantly remind ourselves that we have to be better,” Nishikant said.
The film has been given A-certificate, but Nishikant is not bothered by it and respects the decision made by the Censor board.
“There is no trouble with censors. We went to the board and asked for U/A certificate. They said you should go with an “A” and we respect it.”
“Rocky Handsome” is an official remake of a Korean film, said producer Sunil Kheterpal. “It is an official remake but it is an Indian adaptation. We have done it according to the sensibility of our audience,” Sunil added.
