Sunny Deol is known to pack a punch, who built his career on epic fight scenes. Since early 90’s to now in 2019 Sunny still likes to do the same, but he also believes it is no more about the stories being told,an not just the money. The actor recently interacted with Hindustan Times and talked about being typecast, Bollywood and 100 crore club.
Sunny who has been on the big screen for almost three decades now debuted back in 1983 with Amrita Singh in Rahul Rawail’s Betaab. Talking about the industry’s transition he said, “Initially, the Hindi film industry was never known as an ‘industry’. It was only after the corporates came in that things changed. And because of the change in format, it is all about money now in Bollywood. Unlike before, now, we are looking at remakes or biopics rather than someone coming and saying ‘here’s a story I want to make.’ But I hope that this phase also goes away.”
He further adds, “I want to go to the theatre for good content. That is what I am looking for. I don’t want to go to cinema halls to have sandwiches.”
His recent releases haven’t been doing its best, when asked if he looks forward to join the 100 crore club he said, “Obviously, you want your film to be successful. This is one such industry where people know more about the business than anything else. And they judge if the film is good or bad according to the money it has made.”
As for being typecast, Sunny says he enjoys it and doesn’t mind. “I think it has always been the case. Everybody feels safe with whatever slot they get typecast in. In fact, they enjoy it. I believe, as an actor, you should enjoy whatever you are doing. I have done different roles, too. But somehow, it always boils down to when my character fights the villain and wins (laughs).”
Sunny recently was seen alongside debutant, Karan Kapadia in ‘Blank’ a story about a suicide bomber, which has been appreciated by fans a lot.
