A quirky pairing of Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam launched the first look trailer of ‘Total Siyappa’, which is directed by E Niwas of ‘Shool’ fame. This film gives a heavy dose of Punjabi culture, says E Niwas, “I am returning after a long gap and I have taken enough care to portray the Punjabi flavour appropriately in the film. I have ample knowledge of Punjabi characters, and then I also have the writer-director Neeraj Pandey to fall back on.” ‘Total Siyappa’ will also star, for the first time, real husband-wife duo of Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher on the silver screen.

This will be leading lady Yami’s second outing after the blockbuster ‘Vicky Donor’ last year. Being choosy with work the actress says, “Films with a good script is my priority. A big production house is also important as actors would always want to associate with the best. But for me, the story and the character are of utmost importance. Audiences expect something different from every film, and I am sure ‘Total Siyappa’ will cater to that.”
The film is about marriage woes between a Punjabi girl played by Yami and a Pakistani boy played by Ali. Talking about the film Yami says, “I am happy to work in a film which discourages the idea of cast and creed. It is about humanity and how people from different home lands come together for a love marriage.”
Pakistani singer turned actor Ali Zafar opines that the tension between the two countries is shown in light mannered in the film. He says, “‘Total Siyappa’ will bring India and Pakistan closer. I think people in India and Pakistan will enjoy this film equally. ‘Total Siyappa’ portrays people in a comic way and I am sure my fans over there (Pakistan) will love the film.”
Hailing from across the border, Ali Zafar feels proud to be a part of Bollywood. “If I am getting work here because of my Pakistani style then I really feel proud about it. It has been a great and wonderful journey in India. I feel fortunate to have worked with talented people here,” states the actor.
‘Total Siyappa’ is set in London and portrays situations and circumstances which arise when a Pakistani boy meets a Punjabi family. This results in ‘siyappa’ (total chaos) and later what follows forms the crux of the story. The film is set to release in January 2014.
