Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra might be criticised to be on the heavier size on the big screen by many, but the lively actress tells Pratishtha Malhotra that she isn’t a rebel and wants to look good too on-screen!
Actresses these days are expected to look a certain way and dress and do all kinds of fancy things in terms of appearance which sometime does conflict with their personality and on-screen character. And it’s well know, that actress Parineeti Chopra has been in the limelight for being criticised for her look on-screen many a times.
So in an interview when the actress was asked about it, she replied saying, “You know, everyone thinks that I am this rebellious actress or that I am trying to make a statement saying, ‘I will be over-weight’ or ‘I will wear bad clothes’. I don’t want to wear bad clothes! I don’t want to be over-weight! I also want to look good but I am not this sultry diva. I am not this sex symbol right now because that comes with a certain look, body and body language… some girls are born with it. I have been born with this friendly nature and personality. So maybe I am not the brooding kind.
“In a way it is right, that you have to look your character. In my first film, I had to be an overweight Punjabi fat girl; now I was already looking like that, so it was great. People liked me because they were like, ‘okay, she looks like the character’. If I was wearing a bikini and doing Punjabi dialogues, they would be like, something is not matching. It is absolutely imperative to look your character. There is no doubt about it. I have done two films without make-up. I should be hiring the best people, doing close up shots, slow motion shots… but I think that you should really know your strength and I always thought that acting was definitely my strength, which is why I have been able to reach somewhere.”
The ‘bubbly’ actress further added saying, “And now I must take care of how I look — this is not for my character… that is one aspect of it. But when I am on the red carpet, or a photo shoot or an ad, I think I should look great and I am working towards that. I am not a rebellious actress who is trying to say balls to you, I am not going to lose weight. I am dying to lose weight! I really want to lose weight and look my best.”
