T-Series bossman Bhushan Kumar has been taking the company he inherited from his father, from strength to strength. He believes that content is king; that if the content is good even a small film will make money. His theory is that if you make a film between 50-60 crore there is a possibility of making a profit of Rs. 5-6 crore. But if a film is made within a budget of 6 crore, a 100 percent profit can be made.
He cites the example of his production ‘Hate Story 2’ in this regard. Bhushan also believes that if you make a film like ‘3 Idiots’ where the top actor and the director are also partners, chance of making more money increases. This business savvy producer avers that it helps to be a hands-on filmmaker. He likes to get involved from the start itself even as he gives creative freedom to his directors. As far as music goes, he has inherited his late father Gulshan Kumar’s sense for melody and invariably backs a winning tune. He is also all for promoting new talent. Films make an impact more via how they are packaged than merely on the presence of stars, he vouches.
While considering competition healthy, he keeps his father’s mantra close to his heart: no matter how small your business, treat it as sacred. This belief helps instil dedication in one’s work and ensures success, he maintains. A blend of traditional wisdom and savvy business sense, is perhaps the key behind this honcho’s success.
