Manikarnika (played by Kangana Ranaut) is on horseback, flashing her sword, rallying her troops, dust clouds swirling about her and just as you marvel at what an amazing warrior queen she makes on the screen, you see that she is astride a mechanical horse, the kind they have sitting inside supermarkets to keep three-year-olds amused. The horse is on wheels, to boot.
This is the video of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ that has been doing the rounds recently. Naturally, detractors are having a field day. “Wow! That escalated fast,” tweeted one. “Had me dying especially the part when actress hollered the war cry,” cracked up another. Another tweeted: “What lies beneath!” Naturally, Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel saw red and rode to her defence.
“How else do you take close up on a galloping horse, this is called a machanical horse and used in movies like Gladiator, The last Samurai, Brave heart and Manikarnika … only for the close ups ….dumb people get excited to see technology… Dumbos !!!”, she thundered.
Trolls aside, some fans supported Kangana. A fan shared a video, in which the Queen actor could be seen riding a real horse.
“Some people have become so shameless. Targeting Kangana for her nationalistic approach,” said another. Another smelt a conspiracy — “This clip has suddenly surfaced.
There seems to be a definite AGENDA with an aim to belittle Kangana Ranaut. Truly sad.” “Some losers having no knowledge and are trying to humiliate Kangana Ranaut. In Manikarnika, Kangana has done all the stunts herself,” the fan claimed. Another ardently espoused his case for Kangana:
“So what did you think, In Uri Vicky Kaushal went inside Pakistan and destroyed camps single handedly. Don’t you think you are underestimating Twitterites by silly tweets.. The USP of#Manikarnika is sense of pride of our history n valour of our ancestors. Didn’t you feel it??”
