Happy Friendship Day! 10 Bollywood films that prove life is better with friends

Friendship day, a fabulous day to celebrate with your friends has finally arrived. The first Sunday of August month has a fixed spot in our life to celebrate our friendship. While many other special days are reserved for particular relation, friendship day is a special for everyone.

For instance, mother’s day is special day for mothers, father’s day is special day for fathers, Valentine’s Day is special day for couples, however, friendship day is one which is not limited to one category of people and is a special day for everyone. This is because of a simple reason that everyone has friends, and friendship is one of the best relations that is followed in society.

The idea of friendship is so crucial that it is also part of many Bollywood films. The concept of friendship has given accolades to many films in Bollywood, which have relied on friendship as a basic concept behind the film’s story. Below are some of the films in Bollywood which portrayed the idea of friendship in their stories in a spectacular way.

Yaarana (1981)

Films based on the concept of friendship in Bollywood is not a new thing. Even the old films used the idea of friendship as a basic plot of the story. ‘Yaarana’ is one such film which depicts close friendship between two people. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and late Amjad Khan, the film showcases how two childhood friends help each other in every situation of life. The film was released in 1981.

Dostana (2008)

The story of this film portrays how two people can become close friends while facing similar situation in their life. The film features John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles, who pretend to be gay to live with a girl (Priyanka Chopra), and eventually fall in love with her. Later, the friendship between all the three is shown in the film.

Sanju (2018)

This is a recent film which focuses on friendship a lot. ‘Sanju’, based on the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, depicts how friendship can affect one’s life on a large scale. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt, the film shows both the positive and negative side of friends. The film depicts how company of a cruel friend can lead you into problems and wrong practices, also, how a good friend’s support can help to better your life.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

‘Dil Chahta Hai’ is an emotional story of three friends. At first, the film shows the fun and enjoyment of three friends and the bond that they share among themselves. This involves them enjoying together in clubs, parties, trips etc. Later, the film shows how their lives changes and they move on with their life due to various life situations. The film has Amir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is one of the iconic films based on the concept of friendship. The film focuses on a foreign journey of three friends, who embarks on a trip to explore three different kinds of sport. On the journey, they come across real life lessons which makes their lives better and their friendship stronger. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol in lead roles.

Kai Po Che! (2013)

‘Kai Po Che!’ also depicts the friendship among three people but with a different angle. It is an emotional story of three friends, who grow up together and start working together to achieve success in lives. The film turns emotional later and shows how their friendship gets affected due to communal riots of Gujarat in 2002. It is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘The 3 mistakes of my life’ and features Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh as protagonists.

3 idiots (2009)

‘3 idiots’ is a film which is inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’. The film showcases the close friendship between three friends during their college days. The film depicts how they help each other in the course of life along with giving an insight to social pressures inside an Indian education system. The film has Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the title roles.

Rock on (2008)

Rock on focuses on lives of four friends, who achieve a lot of fame in music together after forming a band ‘Magik’ to enter a competition. Then, they get estranged due various issues which arise in their professional life as a band. Later after ten years, they regroup together again to enter another music competition to complete last wish of one of their band member friend, who is going to die soon due to brain tumour. The epilogue reveals how they live together after the death of their friend to keep their band alive. The film has Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny in the lead.

Rang De Basanti (2006)

Rang De Basanti shows the lives of a group of friends, and the limit to which they go to bring justice for one of their friends. The film focuses on their friendship and how they lead their lives together and fight for the justice of their friend while executing protests against the government. The film has a sad ending as all the friends at the end are killed. The film features Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Siddharth Narayan, Atul Kulkarni and British actress Alice Patten in the lead roles.

Chillar Party (2011)

Chillar Party is a light-hearted comic film based on the friendship of school kids. The film showcases their everyday life and how they fight against a politician for protection of a stray dog they care about. The film is one of the best film focusing on the friendship of children.
