On musical wizard A.R.Rahman’s birthday, who turns 52 today, we list down the five lesser-known gems of the legend which you should definitely include in your playlist. There’s no one better who can understand music the way Rahman does. Whether it’s Sufi, classical or any type of song, it’s next to impossible to defeat Rahman in the world of music. Sure, he had quite a few not so famous songs on his credit, but most of his work is appreciated and applauded globally.

Khatta Meeta- Raunaq

Raunaq: Conversation of Music and Poetry is a 2014 studio album composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics penned by Kapil Sibal. The album takes one on a journey of varied emotions. Khatta Meeta is one of the more famous songs from the same album. Sung by Mohit Chauhan, the song is a peppy number that shouldn’t be missed

‘Enga Pona Raasaa’ from Maryan

Rahman won the Norway Tamil Film Festival Best Music Director award and the SIIMA Award for Best Music Director for the film Maryan in 2014. To bring the feel for the song “Enga Pona Raasaa”, the film director wanted musician Shakthisree to visualise herself “walking barefoot on the sand” and so the picturisation of filmed character “Panimalar”, which was played by actress Parvathy.

Naan Yen – Coke Studio

Naan Yen from Coke Studio is undoubtedly one of the most unexplored song of the legend. This one is sung by him along with his sister Reihana for Coke Studio. It explores an interesting lyrical theme of existentialism.

Spirit of Rangeela – Rangeela (1995)

Be it Haay Rama or Yaaro Sun Lo Zara, everyone still vividly remembers the songs of the film Rangeela. However, it’s Rahman’s orchestration music which captures the spirit of this brilliant film. Kudos to Siva Mani, who owns the theme.

Mil Gaye – Love Birds (1996)

Mil Gaye is from the movie Love Birds starring Prabhu Deva and Nagmawas sung by K. S. Chithra and Hariharan. What less can you expect from the combination of A.R. Rahman and Hariharan, two of world’s best music legends coming together. The result definitely will be a soulful song like Mil Gaye!
