HBO’s Game of Thrones is known to break records, and this time the season 8 premiere has been a record breaker for the entire series. The first episode viewers have been as noted to be as much as a densely populated city like Mumbai.
HBO announced the 1.74 crore viewers who watched Sunday’s episode either on TV or online represent a season-opening high for the fantasy saga. HBO Now also faced its biggest streaming night ever.
The seventh season premiere saw 1.61 crore while the season finale saw 1.69 crore viewers. After HBO faced issues with hackers and leaked episodes during the season seven, the makers have been strict about the finale season. Lack of Torrents files have led to more viewers turning to Hotstar and Star World to view the episode legally.
Last season released in 2017 on an average saw 3.28 crore viewers per episode which for sure is to sky rocket as the season 8 is the series wrap up. HBO has 5 spin-offs of the show in works but most of them will not see their beloved characters from the hit series.
