Fraud Saiyaan movie: Review, cast, director

Film: Fraud Saiyaan

Cast: Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Sara Loren, Elli Avram

Director: Sourabh Shrivastava

Rating: * ½

This film written by Amal Donwaar and Sharad Tripathi, produced by Disha Prakash Jha and directed by Sourabh Shrivastava turns elements of a real-life story, burrowed from newspaper headlines, into a dull, ungainly farce – but mind you, there is no humour in it.

This film is about Bhola Prasad Tripathi (Arshad Warsi), a con artist cum serial killer who marries 13 women in order to get his hands on their wealth and never comes close to getting caught. His luck finally runs out when Daku Chanda (Sara Loren) threatens him, demanding that he turns a new leaf and settle down with her.

This film is meant to be a comedy, but there are hardly any light-weight moments to qualify as such. The writing lacks insight and caters to a certain type. There’s neither sensitivity nor intelligence in the portrayal of victims and the patriarchal obfuscation that allows for male dominance makes it rather retrograde. The bawdy ribaldry here is in bad taste.

The dialogues are hurtful to the ear and the gaudy visuals pain the eyes – so really, not much to enthuse here. The women come and go, leaving a little impact even with sexy numbers highlighting their assets. Both Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla look lacklustre and out-of-sorts in sketchily written central roles. Such a myopic, undignified representation from the Prakash Jha stable was totally unexpected.
