In the wake of MeToo movement in India, model and actress Kate Sharma had earlier accused veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai of sexually harassing her. She revealed that the filmmaker had tried to grab her and kiss and hug her. She had filed a complaint against Subhash Ghai, however, now as per reports in a leading daily, she has withdrawn her case, four days ago. In the notice to the DN Nagar police station, she wrote that she wants to withdraw the complaint to take care of her mother and her entire family who has been highly affected and disturbed ever since she filed the case.
A police official also told the daily that they had approached her once again to record her detailed statement as she had asked for some time. However, she later sent a note asking them to withdraw the case. Kate told the daily that she is fed up of the way the case is progressing and since her mother is not well, she would rather take care of her than seek justice for something that happened to her. She also added by saying that people have only made a mockery out of the MeToo campaign because nothing has happened and that the police are busy filing just FIRs but no one is being arrested. She added that she never spoke to her family about what happened, but now that they’ve seen it on TV they are all upset and disturbed.
When the accusations were made on Ghai, he had shared a post which stated, “I am a great supporter of the Me Too movement and women empowerment but hope that those taking undue advantage of the movement do not end up diluting it for their own short time fame. I feel grief if someone is trying to harm my reputation. Anyway, my lawyers will take care of the matter.” So far, Nana Patekar, Sajid Khan, Vicky Sidana and others have come under the scanner of MeToo movement.
