A big boost was given to the popular trans media serial, ‘Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon’ when Farhan Akhtar’s MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) joined hands with them to support the cause for its second season.

Explaining the reason for his support, Farkhan said, “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon has shown great potential of being a catalyst for change as seen from the feedback the serial has received. ‘Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon’ representing women’s empowerment, and MARD, representing responsible masculinity, have come together as ‘Hum Kuch Bhi Kar Sakte Hain’ to bring in the change we want to see. Women can achieve anything, they need to have the confidence and belief in themselves and society needs to create an environment of support and safety. Men play an important role in the creation of such an environment by being sensitive to these aspirations and by treating women as equals.”

Farhan Akhtar’s MARD Foundation was founded in 2013 with the help of various Bollywood actors and cricketers. The campaign aims to raise social awareness against rape and discrimination of women. The campaign received a positive feedback on social media and with the help of other Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan, MARD foundation grew popular.

The serial focuses on deep-rooted social norms like child marriage, early pregnancy and gender based violence. During its first season, ‘Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon’ was one of the top three serials in its time slot during the course of its telecast. It is reported that the serial was watched by over 58 million viewers. Population Foundation of India(PFI) claims that they received a staggering six lakh phone calls from people across the country, wanting to discuss the issues it had raised and to share their own stories.

Population Foundation of India (PFI), is an NGO that promotes gender-sensitive population and development policies. It was founded in 1970 by a group of socially committed industrialists under the leadership of the late JRD Tata and the late Dr Bharat-Ram. PFI works with the government and like-minded NGOs to give men and women the knowledge and means to plan and raise healthy families.

Season Two of ‘Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon’ continues the inspiring journey of Dr Sneha, representing the young Indian woman of today. It shows the changes that takes place in a society as a group of girls come together to form a football team. The series has been written, produced and directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, eminent theatre and film director and the creative force behind ‘Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon’

Other celebrities endorsing social causes are Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, VidyaBalan, John Abraham and many more. The

bad boy of Bollywood has a soft corner for children hence he started the NGO called Being Human to aid underprivileged children in the areas of education and healthcare.

Actors John Abraham, Dia Mirza and Shilpa Shetty have been the face of PETA’s campaign against animal killing. Not many know of this but Shilpa Shetty also donated the Big Brother winning amount for AIDS awareness campaigns in India. Apart from this lot of young actors, Shabana Azmi’s NGO Mizwan is an attempt to raise funds for under privilege children.
