Los Angeles: Lead characters Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Emmy-winning drama ‘Breaking Bad’ will not return for the first season of its spin-off.

Bryan Cranston played White and Aaron Paul portrayed Pinkman on the original series. Vince Gilligan, who created ‘Breaking Bad’, is co-helming ‘Better Call Saul’ with Peter Gould. The duo said White and Pinkman could make an entry on the show in follow-up seasons, reported Aceshowbiz.

“In the spirit of full disclosure, Walt and Jesse will not appear in season 1,” Gould said. “Having said that, everything else is on the table. The short answer is: The sky is the limit and any of these characters could conceivably show up in future seasons.” Gilligan said. Gilligan said they want the entry of two popular characters to be natural rather than forced.

“But the intention is it will feel proper and organic, because if it feels like a stunt then something has gone terribly wrong in the writers’ room. Jesse will be tricky, because he’s so young (during the ‘Better Call Saul’ timeline). To be completely honest, I want
to see them all eventually. There’s a constant tension of, ‘Man, this would be fun to do, but would it just be a stunt?'” he said.

They added that the Saul Goodman people saw on ‘Breaking Bad’ will be different from the one on the prequel. Bob Odenkirk, the actor who plays the lawyer in two shows, said, “The guy you’re going to meet in this show is a far more dimensional character than Saul.” “You’re remembering what a slippery, two-faced, unethical guy Saul was on Breaking Bad. That was not the guy we’re starting with.” He added, “I think Saul wants to be (good) but he also wants to cut corners when he can,” Gilligan said.

The much-awaited series will debut February 8 with 10 episodes lined up for the first season. A second season of 13 episodes has been ordered by AMC ahead of the premiere.
