World Environment Day 2019: 7 Bollywood celebs who are actively saving the environment
Bollywood in the last year has given its best releases and Box office numbers for films that worked towards social causes and taboos. However that’s not the only part that Bollywood celebrities have played on screen over the years. They have also been active towards the Environment prevention and protection.
On World Environment Day let’s look at some of the Bollywood actors who have dedicated years of their work and career to an environmental cause.
Dia Mirza, actress and environment activist is one of the Bollywood Celebrity who after gathering fame for her work moved on to work of the environment. The actress also the winner of Miss Asia Pacific 2000 title, last year was appointed as the first United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India. She is also an Ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India and is always making sure she uses her platform to spread awareness and make sure people understand the importance of environment protection.
Aamir Khan who does now only one film a year, spends the rest of the year with wife Kiran Rao for Paani Foundation, to help the villages of Maharashtra from droughts, as they not only get down to work on the fields themselves but also safeguard the villagers and environment’s futures by educating people, how to tackle and avoid the issue of drought in their villages.
Abhishek Bachchan who last year returned to the big screen has also been fighting for climate change. The actor has also won a Green Globe award for his efforts in 2012 by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The actor has been appreciated by the Green Globe Foundation and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for his work.
Amitabh Bachchan took has been working to save the environment from climate change. Earlier in order to build awareness he partnered with Global Cool an International Indian Film Academy and has worked towards reducing the use of vehicles and air-conditioners while shooting of films.
Rahul Bose has been using his talents towards cause of climate change, the actor in 2009 represented Oxfam at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen. Later in 2011 Bose was working with the United Nations Environment Program, and the International Indian Film Academy, and pledged to plant two trees for every activity registered in his name.
Gul Panag formulated a Green Home with water harvesting and solar power energy, she later launched her own foundation The Col. Shamsher Singh Foundation that addresses basic sanitation, waste disposal and effective employment of natural energy resources.
Akshay Kumar, has worked hard towards social causes the use of the biggest platform in India with films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha for the Swachh Bharat initiative, he has also known to have worked with BMC to promote cleanliness in Mumbai. The actor recently featured in the song for World Environment Day to prevent air pollution and spread awareness. ‘Hawa Aane De’.
