‘Mahabharat’ actor Gajendra Chauhan claims being awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2021; Twitterati ask, ‘Who are you’

Months after it was announced that superstar Rajinikanth will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2019, 'Mahabharat' actor Gajendra Chauhan has claimed that he has been awarded the same for the year 2021.

Gajendra took to Twitter, sharing a picture holding the trophy and wrote, “Honoured- I hv been awarded Legend Dada Saheb Phalke award 2021 today in Mumbai for my work in Indian Film Industry. Thanks to my well wishers.”

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest honour in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards by Directorate of Film Festivals of the Information and Broadcasting ministry of the Government of India. The first recipient of the award was actress Devika Rani. Recent recipients include Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, filmmaker K. Vishwanath and Manoj Kumar.

Interistingly, the trophy held by Chauhan has the initials KCF on them, which isn't the case with the actualy trophy.

While there has been no official announcement by the Government of India in any form, scores of netizens have been trolling the actor for his tweet.

In April 2021, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Indian cinema's highest honour for an artiste, for the year 2019, will be presented to Rajinikanth.

The superstar dedicated his award to people who have been a part of his journey.

Meanwhile, Gajendra Chauhan is best known for essaying the role of Yudhishthira in B R Chopra's mega TV serial on the epic 'Mahabharat'. He is also the former Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) chairman. In March this year, he announced another biopic inspired by the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi called 'Ek Aur Naren' which will see him in the titular role.

The actor said that he knew Modi personally for 20 years. "I will seek to explore the towering personality of Narendra Modi, his way of thinking, his way of interaction with masses, his connect with the people, his beliefs. As an artiste it is a great opportunity for him to portray such a character, he said.
