Karni Sena raises objection over title of Akshay Kumar's 'Prithviraj', warns makers of consequences like 'Padmaavat'

The Karni Sena has asked the makers of Akshay Kumara and Manushi Chillar's Prithviraj, to change the title of the film.

The upcoming historical film will feature Akshay as the legendary king Prithviraj Chauhan. It will reportedly be based on the epic poem 'Prithviraj Raso' by Chand Bardai.

On Saturday, the Karni Sena raised an objection over the film, and filmmaker Surjeet Singh Rathore, President of the Youth Wing of the Karni Sena, has said that 'how can the makers keep the title of the film as just Prithviraj when the film is based on the great Prithviraj Chauhan?'

According to ETimes, the Karni Sena wants the title to be changed to his full name as a respect to the great king.

Reportedly, the Rajput organization has also warned the makers of consequences if the demand isn't met. Karni Sena has also said that if the makers of Prithviraj don't listen to their advice, they will have to face consequences, similar to what Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmaavat faced.

They have also demanded that film has to be screened for them before its release.

In March 2020, the Karni Sena had asked the producers of Prithviraj not to tamper with any facts. Members of the outfit, led by its national president Mahipal Singh Makrana, had staged a stir at the shooting of the film in Jamwaramgarh village, near Jaipur.

Prakash had then assured them that there was no tampering with historic facts in the film's script.

The highly anticipated movie's director Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who has a fascination to adapt movies from path-breaking books, last month revealed that the epic 'Prithviraj Raso' is the inspiration behind Prithviraj.

Revealing details about the movie, he said, "Prithviraj is also based mainly on medieval literature, an epic called 'Prithviraj Raso' by the great poet Chand Bardai. Apart from a couple of versions of Raso, there are many other literary works on Prithviraj, his life, and times. In addition to these, there are commentaries on Raso."

While Akshay will be seen essaying the role of the legendary warrior who fought valiantly against the merciless Muhammad of Ghor, Manushi will make her much-awaited debut opposite Akshay in the role of Prithviraj's wife, Sanyogita.

The film is produced by Yash Raj Films.
