Producer Karan Johar, who bankrolled the much-criticised Netflix series 'Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives' -- featuring star wives Neelam Kothari Soni, Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan and Bhavana Pandey, revealed that he came up with the idea for the show while going for a chautha.

During a 'Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives' reunion on Club House, Karan Johar said that the Maheep, Seema, Bhavna and Neelam have been special to him for 'nearly two-and-a-half decades', but he came up with the idea for the show on a flight. They had taken a flight to Delhi to attend a condolence meet of a friend's father and that's when Karan realised that they're 'completely crazy', he said.

"Because we were discussing our attires, much like Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3, whether Neelam had too much shine on her white kurta or whether Maheep was underdressed for a chautha. It was inappropriate and it was idiotic and it was so much fun that I said that the four of them have to be on a show," the filmmaker said.

He continued: "They made something even like a chautha sound like such a massive problem in what they were wearing to what was happening. And it was like they were talking nonsense. And then when we reached, we had to play-act that we were really sad, and on our flight back, we were talking rubbish."

The 'Aye Dil Hai Mushkil' filmmaker said that while Neelam Kothari has faced the camera several times, the other three were 'technically virgins to the camera'.

"And I think they were naturals," he said.

Featuring Samir Soni's wife and former actress Neelam Kothari, Sohail Khan's wife Seema Khan, Sanjay Kapoor's wife Maheep Kapoor and Chunky Pandey's wife Bhavana Pandey, the show gave Bollywood buffs a glimpse of the 'fabulous lives' they have been living.

The show, which started streaming on Netflix from November 27, 2020, has been renewed for a second season.
