Actress and singer Jiah Khan was found dead in her Mumbai apartment in 2013 at the age of 25. The death was ruled as suicide by Mumbai Police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In 2018, a court in Mumbai charged Sooraj Pancholi with abetting Khan's suicide.

Details of Jiah Khan's Death:

Jiah died by suicide on June 3, 2013. The incident is said to have taken place between 11 pm and 11:30 pm at her residence in Juhu. Her mother and sister were not at home when she reportedly hanged herself.

An autopsy was performed at JJ Hospital in Byculla, Mumbai. Her body was then brought back to her residence around 7 am on June 5, 2013, following the post-mortem. On the same day her Namaz-e-janaza took place at Sonapur Kabar Walla Masjid and she was buried at Juhu Muslim cemetery after Dhuhr prayer per Islamic rites.

The entire film industry was shocked after the mysterious death of one of the rising stars of Bollywood.

On 7 June 2013, a six-page hand-written note was found at her residence by her sister, allegedly addressed to Jiah's boyfriend, actor Sooraj Pancholi. The note reportedly indicated that Jiah planned to end her life. A transcript mentioning an abortion was also released by the family. However, her mother later said the purported events did not add up and that she suspected foul play.

Sooraj was taken into police custody during the investigation of her suicide on June 10, 2013. The Bombay High Court granted him bail on July 2, 2013.

On July 3, 2014, a year after her death, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was ordered by the High Court to further investigate the death.

The High Court held a hearing on the matter on June 7, 2016, following the Supreme Court's call to expedite the process.

On 1 August 2016 the CBI ruled out murder in the case. As per it's investigations, the cause of death was 'sucide by hanging'.

Jiah's mother Rabia, independently hired British forensics expert Jason Payne-James who concluded in a September 2016 report that Jiah's hanging was staged and the marks on her face and neck indicate that it was not a suicide.

In January 2017, the prosecution requested that charges of sexual assault and murder be laid against Sooraj Pancholi.

On January 31, 2018, a court in Mumbai charged Sooraj Pancholi with abetting Jiah's suicide. The CBI submitted a list of 69 witnesses including Jiah's mother Rabia. The case has not yet been settled.
