Imtiaz Ali, who was born on June 16,1971, is a film director, producer and writer. He started his career with writing and directing television shows.

His unique film-making style and vivid characters in his films have made cine-goers big fans of his work.

He entered Bollywood with his first movie, 'Socha Na Tha', pairing Ayesha Takia and Abhay Deol. It didn't do well at the box office, but it was a simple love story told in the most beautiful way. His first commercial success was 'Jab We Met'.

As the ace filmmaker celebrates his 50 th birthday, have a look at some of his best movies:

1. Jab We Met

This movie is a feel-good film and an instant mood-booster. It has good storyline and a great soundtrack. This romantic comedy follows Geet played by Kareena Kapoor Khan chasing trains and love, not realising that the trains don't matter and love is staring at her right in the face through the eyes of Aditya played by Shahid Kapoor.

2. Cocktail

This is a romantic comedy and is one of the best films of Imtiaz Ali. It is modern and might even be relatable to some. This film has got a love triangle, the most amazing soundtrack and an all-star cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty.

3. Tamasha

This film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. This movie revolves around the life of a man with borderline personality disorder and his story is relived in three stages, as a nine-year-old child, an adolescent and then an adult.

4. Jab Harry Met Sejal

This is a romantic comedy starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. In this film, Sejal an exuberant woman loses her engagement ring on a trip and enlists the help of a flirtatious tour guide by the name of Harry to help her find it. She ends up falling for him.

5. Love Aaj Kal

This is a romantic, dramedy which stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. The film portrays the feeling of pure love which never changes, although the perspective of realising one's soulmate has changed over time.

6. Highway

The star of this film is Alia Bhatt. It tells the story of a girl who, for reasons that are later revealed, discovers freedom after being kidnapped.
