Bollywood's first superstar Dilip Kumar passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday morning at the age of 98. He is survived by his wife Saira Banu.
The legendary actor was born as Yusuf Khan to Ayesha Begum and Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan 1922.
In a career spanning over six decades, Dilip Kumar starred in iconic films including 'Devdas', 'Ram Aur Shyam', 'Jogan', 'Deedar', 'Daag,' 'Insaniyat', 'Paigham' and 'Mughal-e-Azam' among others.
Dilip Kumar debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata (1944) and worked in over 65 films.
He has been credited for bringing a distinct form of method acting technique to the cinema.
Dilip Kumar was undoubtedly the heartthrob of many actresses. Have a look at the women Dilip Kumar really loved and the incomplete love stories in the Tragedy King’s real life.
Dilip Kumar apparently fell in love with renowned actress, Kamini Kaushal on the sets of the film 'Shaheed'. They were planning to marry as well, but Kamini's brother was against the relationship.
According to reports, since Kamini was already married to her late sister's husband to look after her child, it was difficult for her to move out. It has also been said that Kamini’s brother had even threatened the actor to break off with his sister and move on.
Dilip Kumar and Madhubala were madly in love with each other. However, luck wasn’t by their side. The duo even got engaged but it is reported that there was a huge ego problem between Madhubala’s father and Dilip Kumar and that was the reason behind their breakup.
Apparently, Madhubala wasn't being allowed to shoot at a particular location and the producer of the film had asked Dilip to convince her father. He tried to do so but failed and the actress refused to disobey her father. When it came to their marriage, Madhubala asked him to apologise to her father but Dilip Kumar refused to so and that created the unending tiff between Madhubala and Dilip.
Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala created history in Hindi cinema with their burning chemistry in several movies. There were rumors of their relationship, however, both of them continued to be in denial. It was also said that this was Dilip Kumar’s third love saga after the ones with Kamini and Madhubala.
They worked together in films like 'Naya Daur', Ganga Jamuna', 'Madhumati', 'Devdas', 'Paigam' and others.
When Dilip Kumar was introduced to Saira Banu, he apparently considered her to be too young to be paired opposite him in films. Saira had even confessed that she was in love with Dilip's on-screen image since the age of 12. However, their fairytale romance culminated into marriage and at the time of their wedding, Dilip Kumar was 44 and Saira Banu was 22.
Dilip Kumar and Asma’s love story was a big blow to Saira Banu. Dilip fell in love with Asma and got attached to her within months. Their love blossomed and both of them got married. Dilip and Saira got divorced and that left Saira heartbroken. However just after two years, there was a rift between Dilip and Asma as Dilip found out that she was cheating on him and that led to their divorce. After they got apart, Saira remarried Dilip Kumar.
It was only after his divorce with Asma, that the actor apparently realised his mistake of moving out of his first marriage.
