India’s Oscar winning short film, Period stars, Sneha and Suman are in deep financial crisis due to the fame that the film. The film directed by Rayka Zehtabchi is a documentary, which was shot in at the sanitary pad-making factory in Kathikeda, Uttar Pradesh where they worked.
According a report in The Quint, the women were gifted Rs 1 lakh each by UP CM Akhilesh Yadav for their achievement and also received Rs 50,000 each from the state’s governor Ram Naik, which according to the NGO belongs to them.
Fly reported the factory asked them to leave because they refused to hand over the money, they believe the film revolved around their initiatives and not the women, so the financial rewards should belong to them.
Suman was quoted saying, “My husband works as temporary guard at a local bank’s ATM facility and is unable to meet monthly expenses of the family. I was not paid for three months and when I asked for it, I was told that Rs 1 lakh were already given to me so I didn’t need a salary, eventually they asked me to quit.”Sneha, who revealed in the documentary she wanted to become a cop, had to leave the institute because she now is financially incapable of taking the coaching lessons.However the Project manager for Action India claims after returning from winning Oscar, the two engrossed in festivities, and began to neglect work and this went on for two months.
