Mumbai: Actor Dilip Kumar, 98, was admitted to the PD Hinduja Hospital, Khar, on Sunday morning, after he complained of breathlessness. He was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion, but his condition was stable and he was on oxygen support, doctors said. He is likely to be discharged in the next two to three days.
Pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar confirmed the diagnosis. “Kumar has been put on oxygen support. He has been diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion along with a drop in oxygen saturation. But he is stable and not in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” said Dr Parkar.
Earlier in the day, a tweet was shared on the actor’s Twitter handle, clarifying that he had not been admitted for Covid-19. “Dilip Sahab has been admitted to non-Covid PD Hinduja Hospital Khar for routine tests and investigations. He’s had episodes of breathlessness. A team of healthcare workers led by Dr Nitin Gokhale is attending to him. Please keep Sahab in your prayers and please stay safe,” the tweet read.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar paid Kumar a visit on Sunday. Afterwards, he tweeted, “Visited legendary actor Shri Dilip Kumar ji at Khar Hinduja hospital to check on his health and treatment, with veteran actress SmtSaira Banu. I wish Shri Dilip Kumarjia a speedy recovery and good health."
Last year, Dilip Kumar's brothers Ehsan Khan, 90, and Aslam Khan, 88, succumbed to Covid, after having been admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital for treatment.
