Kangana made her directorial debut with Manikarina: The Queen of Jhansi earlier this year, and reports suggest the actress took over the director’s command even for her next release Mental Hai Kya. However film director Prakash Kovelamudi, refuted all rumours while speaking to Hindustan Times.
An Asian Age report suggested the release date has been postponed because Kangana didn’t like the way some of her scenes have turned out and would like to re-shoot them. However Prakash Kovelamudi told HT the rumours are just that, he enjoyed working with Kangana and Rajkummar Rao. He also added, the release date shift is purely due to business perspective.
“We have shot Mental Hai Kya without any negativity. Both Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao have been fantastic to shoot with, they bring their own energy to the film. Working on Mental Hai Kya has been a collaborative process and it’s been an incredible journey. The shift in the release date of the film has been purely made from business perspective by the producers. We are ready to hit screens on 26th July. Any other conjecture is baseless and untrue.”
The original report in Asian Age quoted a sources saying, “After Kangana saw the footage, she was not happy with the way her role had shaped up. She also felt that her co-star Rajkummar Rao stole many of the scenes. Kangana wanted those scenes to be re-shot.”
“We must understand that Kangana is no longer satisfied with just being an actor on her sets. She wants to participate in every aspect of her film’s evolution. And why not?” The source added, why not let Kangana director the film, nobody opposes Aamir or Salman Khan when they take over directorial commands during shooting.
Kangana has also been said to have taken over the directorial charge during the shoot of Simran with Hansal Mehta. Post similar rumours during Manikarina, the director Krrish quit the film and Ranaut was given the primary credit as the film’s director.
