Actresses have always been an easy target for trolls, and in this case Kareena Kapoor Khan has been special. She has always been targeted for reasons from gaining weight, losing weight, men she dates to her parenting style for Taimur.
The actress is currently enjoying her European holiday with husband Saif Ali Khan and adorable Taimur in Tuscany. Fans even now are unhappy with her latest selfie and are calling her ‘Aunty’ and ‘Bhudi’ for looking a big old bare skinned. This is not the first time, netizens have called out an actress for aging, which is a natural process and unavoidable.
Previously a no make up picture of Aishwarya Rai with Aaradhya also received hate since the actress looked old, tired and not covered in layers of make up. Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Rekha were also trolled for trying to return to the industry as actresses since they have already aged, are married and have kids. Bollywood since the beginning had an unspoken role, an actress once married or looks a bit old has no space on screen for her. While actors like the Kapoors (earlier) and Khans (now), at the age of 50’s and 60 are still playing leads, romancing females half their age with clear age lines. Other actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher and more are accepted with open arms on screen in different roles, then why not female actors?
Female actors who haven't aged or stopped working are still targeted for even a slight change, like Katrina Kaif for her swollen face post a dental surgery, Lisa Ray for ageing after being a sex symbol of early 90’s, Malika Arora for dating a younger man. More have faced trolls, who criticize actresses and their hard work for aging. Even though the industry has changed over the years, netizens haven’t.
Kareena Kapoor who will turn 39 years old in September this year, is not even close to feeling old and neither are other actresses. Kareena is the face of fitness for women. She has changed the way people thought about motherhood and she will continue to break stereotypes as a renowned actress of the industry. Just as male actor’s age has never been a concern neither should female actor’s. If size, height, color doesn't matter anymore so shouldn't age.
