Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has passed away at 85 after prolonged illness. The fashion designer, who was the creative director of Chanel, died on Tuesday, February 19. His death comes barely a month after he failed to greet the audience at the end of a Chanel fashion show in Paris because he was feeling tired. Bollywood celebrities including actresses Priyanka Chopra, Sushmita Sen, Athiya Shetty and Neha Dhupia and Indian couturiers Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra remembered the German Fashion Icon.
Priyanka Chopra took to her Instagram account and posted a picture where Karl Lagerfeld is in deep thought trying to sketch a design. The actress captioned the picture as, “Remembering Karl Lagerfeld. His brilliance and pathbreaking contribution to the world of fashion will continue to inspire young minds everywhere” (sic).
Sharing a quote of his on her Twitter handle, actress Neha Dhupia tweeted a picture of Karl, in his distinctive look wearing dark suits paired with a ponytail and black sunglasses, and captioned it, “RIP #KarlLagerfeld … fashion just lost an icon … “I am very much down to earth, just not this earth” …” (sic).
Even former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen paid her tribute to him on Instagram with a caption that read, “What a brilliant Man & a celebrated life!!!�� Godspeed @karllagerfeld Rest in peace THE LEGEND!!!� #respect #love #remembered #cherished #chanel #fendi #class #fashion #timeless #biggestfanever #duggadugga” (sic).
For Indian designers Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra, Karl’s death marked end of an era. Talking to IANS, Rohit Bal said, “We will miss the genius and the eccentricity of Karl Lagerfeld, a legend who has an incredible individual sense of style. One of the greats in the history of global fashion influencers. May his soul rest in peace… in fashion heaven.”
