Attention! Lilly Singh drops ‘If Bollywood Songs Were Rap’, a music video on stereotypical projection of women

Superwoman aka Lilly Singh is in India for the YouTube Fan Fest and she recently dropped a music video titled as ‘If Bollywood Songs Were Rap’. The five minute long reel features Lilly in a fusion traditional avatar mouthing lyrics that touch upon stereotypical portrayal of women in films and music, mental health, and definitely sexuality.

The Indian-Canadian comedian, released the video on Thursday on her official YouTube channel. Her version makes use of three popular Bollywood Hindi tracks such as Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, All Izz Well and Aankh Marey.

On her YouTube Channel she mentions, “I love Bollywood and I love rap music. So I decided to let my worlds collide by turning some of my favourite songs into rap songs! And while I was at it, I thought, why not make them little motivational anthems that speak to causes close to my heart? I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them! I can’t wait to perform these at #YTFF on Saturday in Mumbai!”

Apart from the entertaining element, Singh has incorporated an underlying message on bisexuality- a revelation she made weeks ago about herself. The social media sensation has encouraged fans to embrace themselves despite their sexual preferences.

The video has garnered over 1 million views in just a day of its release. Fans are obsessed with the self-empowering lyrics. Watch the video below.
