Sadia Khateeb will be seen as one of Akshay Kumar’s sisters in Aanand L Rai’s upcoming directorial venture, Raksha Bandhan. Produced by Zee Studios, Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films, it is scheduled to hit screens on August 11. The Free Press Journal caught up with the actress for an exclusive chat. Excerpts:
How was it working with Akshay Kumar?
We all know he is a great performer with ethics, discipline and passion. One thing I have noticed is the genuine way in which he treats people around him. Despite being a superstar, he takes care with so much warmth for everyone around him.
The song Tere Saath Hoon Main reminds everyone of the ’90s era. What are your thoughts?
First of all, in reality, I haven’t gotten married. Every woman has to go through this. So the moment we think of leaving our family behind, it makes one feel sorrowful.
The film’s title is based on the festival highlighting the bond of brother-sister love...
It’s indeed great that our country has innumerable festivals that are celebrated here. This is the beauty of India.
Would you like to share any memories with your brother? Has he complimented you for your beautiful look in the song?
I have my younger brother. I love him so much. He has a wonderful heart and is also very handsome. He has never shown his love to me. My recent memory is during the trailer release of Shikara. I was very nervous, and the same happened with Raksha Bandhan’s trailer launch. This is the first time my brother wrote this, ‘You look beautiful’. I still have saved that screenshot. This is a much bigger compliment for me. I feel I have received some marks because he has vast knowledge about cinema.
Your expressions in Tere Saath Hoon Main leave an undying impression. How did you manage to do all of that?
Everyone is saying good things about the trailer. I loved the fact that people feel I have expressed a lot without any dialogue. As an actor, you feel so nice and happy. People can relate to the song, and that’s the biggest thing for me.
Are you a trained actor?
I’m not trained. I have never even read a book on acting. I learned during the workshop of Shikara. I like to do any act convincingly. Whatever I play, I believe in that character. I’m a very hard-working, passionate and emotional girl. These things are helping to give my best on the screen.
You are two films old now. Do you think you are well versed in facing the camera?
I am learning camera tactics. I don’t think I have learned camera tricks. Whatever you play, be honest to the character, just saying lines won’t work. It’s my bidaai. I have to believe in that moment and convince my mind, and then it naturally happens.
