Internet is a very weird place. Sometimes you can pass off even if you’ve made a big blunder and sometimes even a small mistake can cost you a lot, something similar happened with Bollywood Director Karan Johar.
Apparently Karan Johar uploaded a video clip on his Instagram profile on November 10, from the sets of India’s Got Talent TV show, where he, actress-politician Kirron Kher and Malaika Arora are co-judges. The trio are famous as ‘Toodles’ as Karan keeps posting funny videos where Kirron Kher is often seen criticizing Karan’s fashion sense.
It so happened that this particular video posted by Karan showed Kirron Ji wearing a spiked bamboo Arunachalee hat about which Karan made a fun of.
In the video which is now deleted by Karan from his Insta handle, he asks Kirron what is she wearing, to which the senior actress explained to him that this is an Assamese ‘Japi’, traditional hat made which was made of bamboo, dried leaves and pieces of coloured cloths.
When Kirron asked why he is not wearing the hat, Karan jokingly said “”Because you have guts, I don’t. But you’re looking like you’re going to break into some kind of qawwali.”
This apparently irked the people over the internet who started trolling Karan mercilessly for making fun and hurting sentiments of Assamese as the hat is considered to be the pride of Assam.
The director in no time apologize on his twitter handle and even deleted the post. The actor responding to one of the comments tweeted “You are absolutely right and I would like to apologise if I have hurt any sentiments…..it was purely unintentional and came from a place of no knowledge which is absolutely no excuse….am extremely sensitive to the different cultures of our land and I am very sorry….Also have deleted the Insta post!”.
