Panaji: Upcoming film “31 October” is based on the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984 but writer-producer Harry Sachdeva says despite the sensitive issue of the film, he wants it to get a U/A certificate from the censor board as it will help the film reach a wider audience.
Sachdeva says he has got an A certificate last week but hopes to send the film to the revising committee. “I got the censor last week. But there are few cuts as it is a sensitive film and there were things that they thought were not appropriate. But I want the film to get a U certificate so that it reaches to a wider audience (with some more cuts if necessary),” Sachdeva told PTI on the sidelines of IFFI.
“31 October” stars Soha Ali Khan and Vir Das in lead roles and is a 24-hour story of a Sikh family and their ordeals during the riots, which followed the Indira Gandhi’s assassination. The producer promises the film is an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
“It is a 24-hour story, a one day story of a family- husband, wife and their three children. Their colony gets badly affected by the riots and they struggle to keep themselves safe. It is an edge-of-the-seat political thriller.”
Sachdeva said for the film, which has been directed National Award Winner Shivaji Lotan Patil, he has done extensive research as he didn’t want to tamper the fact and has presented the incidents as it happened. “For my research, I met journalists, victims, people who were right next to Indira Gandhi, met few doctors at AIIMS. I started collecting facts. Not many people know about it especially the youth. So I decided to make film on it,” he said. The film is set to release next year.
