Dr V.N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies,Thane (BRIMS) recently conducted the Foundation program for their new batch of PGDM students. The theme of the Foundation program was “Create Your Unique Value”. BRIMS Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program is an AICTE approved two year full time program that encourages the students to create their unique value as they look to enter the corporate world. BRIMS PGDM foundation program comprised of interactive workshops with eminent industry and academic experts who coached the new students around core values of Leadership, Innovation and Creativity, Design Thinking, Communication, Personality building and many more. Students were encouraged to work in teams and participate in assignments and projects that challenged their creativity and problem solving skills in addition to testing their communication and presentation abilities.
During the two year journey with BRIMS PGDM course, the students will are engaged on Value Building Sessions which focuses on overall personality development. Activities such as Book Reviews, Sector Analysis studies, Communication Workshops, Personality Grooming and Interview Readiness Enablers along with industry visits help students build their unique values and sharpen their core skills.
In addition to the basic syllabus, students will also get an opportunity to learn a foreign language that may help them with the placement opportunities in some multinational companies. It is important that the students look after their mental and physical health during the course. They will get an opportunity to learn Yoga from experts. This would help drive focus, concentration and sharpen their learning skills.
The teaching strategies have also been enhanced with the incorporation of experiential techniques in learning including gamification and simulation method. This helps students understand complex concepts with the help of practical game based and simulation approach.
The students will be exposed to the global environment and global education system through international study tour that provides them with an opportunity to observe the set up and working of different universities and key industries. Students are able to check out the industrial workspaces and also learn to navigate in a global, multicultural and dynamic corporate landscape.
One of the important steps that are being taken is in the area of building the industry interface and industry connect is that the BRIMS PGDM syllabus is being regularly updated to be more industry relevant and the institute involves industry representatives to help redesign and update the syllabus based on the current industry needs and relevance.
Also, the alumni who are now working in the industry at senior positions help mentor and guide the students in specific business areas and sectors through the Alumni Connect. It is important that the faculty collectively monitors and regularly tracks the progress of the students through the two years journey. Faculty at BRIMS PGDM comprises of a good mix of respected academicians as well as senior executive resources with Indian and International corporate experience. Together they are helping the students build strong management foundations with a clear focus on the concept applications.
