India Chevening Rolls-Royce S&I Leadership Programme 2014 open
Applications are invited for the Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Programme to be held at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. This all-expenses-paid 12-week scholarship for 12 persons is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Rolls-Royce. The last date for applications is November 15, 2013.
This is an opportunity for mid-career Indian professionals working in the fields of science and innovation. The ideal candidate should be a mid-career government, science or media professional with leadership potential and experience in any of the following or similar disciplines: research, technology, manufacturing, business development, or business and public administration.
This Chevening Rolls-Royce Programme includes a wide range of modules including bridging pure research and business/scientific entrepreneurship, practical processes of innovation, commercialisation of research and technology transfer. Microscope costing 1 crore at Goa University
In an interesting piece of news, Goa University has has installed a scanning electron microscope, which was purchased with an additional grant from the University Grants Commission for ` 1 crore.
The instrument, which is manufactured by Carl Zeiss , allows magnifications up to one lakh times, on conducting and non-conducting samples, and in-vivo biological materials. No wonder, that a special space was constructed on the campus to keep the machine.
Polytechnics to be upgraded
The state department for higher and technical education has approved the plan to modernize and upgrade 41 polytechnics in Maharashtra through the centrally-funded public private partnership scheme. Each institute will receive funding to introduce new and innovative courses and hire faculty to expand the training programmes.
IIT Bombay unveils new nanotechnology lab
IIT Bombay is inaugurating the Agilent-IIT Characterization Lab, for research, especially in the field of nanotechnology. The inauguration will happen today.
With this lab, IIT Bombay becomes one of the early institutes to have equipment for nanotechnology research, thereby giving a thrust to increased emphasis by corporate houses in facilitating R&D at education hubs.
Colleges struggle to upload internal assessment marks online, MU extends deadline
Many city colleges have missed the deadline to upload the marks of the internal assessments of students on the Mumbai University’s online portal. It is not because the officials are busy holidaying, but because the server of the University is really slow. Reportedly, the university is will be extending the deadline by at least a week, so that all the colleges can fill in the data in time.
Most colleges have to fill in the scores for thousands of students, and with the slow servers, it is turning out to be a tedious and unproductive process.
