Varanasi: The three-day Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) in Varanasi came to an end on Saturday with education leaders pledging to work together to turn India into a just and thriving knowledge society.

Addressing the valedictory session, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that we need to develop forward-looking, responsive, world-class higher education institutions to prepare 21st century-ready students. We have to work to ensure access, inclusivity, equitability, affordability and quality in higher education, added the statement. The Minister said that we must bring in a transformative education system rooted in Indian values, thoughts and a sense of service.

He continued, "National Education Policy 2020 provides us with the framework and roadmap for decolonizing our educational system, realising our goals, and fostering pride in our languages, culture, and expertise."

He added that the NEP's components, such as multimodal education, academic bank of credits, multiple entrances and exits, and skill development, will prove to be turning points toward student-centered, teacher-led learning.

According to Pradhan, new energy and confidence have been awakened as a result of the enthusiasm of all the academics, policymakers, and educators participating in this three-day event. He continued, "This Shiksha Samagam is a step towards making India a knowledge-based superpower."

The Minister emphasised that our higher education system should be run for the students by the teachers.
